Waste, Electrical, Eelectronic Equipment Directive [WEEE]
The above Directive was brought into force in the UK on the 13 August 2004. It aims to reduce the waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment and improve the environment. Business/organisation now have to provide a Duty of Care controlled waste transfer note for all waste.Did you know:
- 375 million printer cartridges have ended up in landfill or been incinerated
- Each laser cartridge contains over 1.5kg plastic, aluminium and other assorted materials.
- It takes 1.5 pints of oil to make a new cartridge
- Of the 7 million toner cartridges used in the UK in 1999, three quarters were binned - enough to reach across the radius of the moon if laid end to end
- A cartridge takes 1000 years to biodegrade
- Printer ink costs more than champagne
